Prices

The prices throughout the year fluctuate, as you might expect, due to the numbers of fish entering the rivers. The season is split into three seasons; spring, summer and autumn. Below is a price guide of the costs to be expected for each season and a brief on what to expect. Prices includes securing of top class fishing beats, all fishing equipment as described on Fishing Tackle page, Transport from airport to accommodation, pick up from accommodation to fishing and packed lunches.

Spring

Springers are the fish our guides prize the most, fish in peak condition, fresh in from the sea, torpedo shaped covered in sea lice. Springers can be caught from opening day 15th Jan (some call them winter fish) in the far up reaches of river systems. Spinning and trawling is the order of the day for the early part when the water is high and cold. Springers are generally good takers, those who put the effort in can be rewarded with the fish of a life time. As the water warms up excellent sport can be had on the fly in May fishing small flies close to the surface for both salmon and sea trout. Specimen sea trout can be had late spring.

Summer

June is the start of summer fishing, when we have the added bonus of grilse entering the river systems in large numbers. These salmon that have only been at sea for one year return weighing in at 3lb to 6lb are extremely hard fighting, many are lost due to underestimation of the their fighting powers. Salmon runs get better with every tide throughout the summer with the grilse runs peaking in August. Sea trout fishing starts in earnest in June and can provide excellent sport for those prepared to fish throughout the night, itís not uncommon for an angler to catch a dozen sea trout on one nights fishing. The weather in summer can be erratic and tactics can change not only day to day but hour to hour in Scotland (we donít have the saying of ďall seasons in one dayĒ for nothing). If your guide advises a start time of 4am or to return at 9pm and fish till dark or fish throughout the night, then you can guarantee that this will be you best time to get some sport. All fishing techniques are required itís up to you to make the best out of the advice provided by your guide.

Autumn

The back end run as it is known absolutely stuffs the rivers with fish. Fresh fish anything from 5lb to 20lb with occasional beauties in the 30 to 40lb class enter the rivers from September to the end of November. These are the months when the biggest catches are recorded. As for techniques, fly will produce fish right to the end of the season but if youíre a fly fishing purist then sorry, there will be times when some forms of spinning will have to be employed as the water levels at times will not allow anything else. Your guide will keep you right and advice on best fly, lure, bait and technique to suit all conditions. Weather conditions as always predicts, but at this time of year no matter what, there is always a chance of connecting with a fish that will provide you with everlasting memories and a story to be retold many times over.
